Paula from Queensland on Amoryn
Click here to return <<previous | next>> My daughter became severely depressed when she was fifteen, due mainly to four very sad events, including deaths of close friends, over the space of a year. It was also her NCEA year ...,so coupled with a perfectionist nature, and a very high IQ, she had a nervous breakdown. We spent the whole of term 3 that year trying to sort out what was happening to her. She was sleeping nearly all the time, and when awake, she was crying a lot, or sitting in a withdrawn fashion. Her main love was writing or drawing. She could no longer do either, nor could she read. She would sit there with a pencil or book in her hand, and nothing would happen. We tried TLC, walks along the beach, etc but acknowledged very soon that this was way beyond the blues. So off to the doctor who prescribed Prozac...1 tablet per day. This was increased to 2 tablets a day after 6 months as 1 tablet didn’t have too much effect. Two tablets a day meant she could function, although she still quite often fell into the 'black hole' and didn’t want to live anymore, or became very, very crabby with everyone she loved. She also had various sessions of counseling, which were part of the requirement from the doctor. Even on 2 tablets a day, she came back with the diagnosis of very severely depressed
.
When she was 17 she became extremely ill with glandular fever. So ill, she could not even walk, and when I took her to the (medical) doctor, she said there was nothing they could do. A side effect of glandular fever is depression, so here was my (already) depressed daughter being dealt a double whammy from life.
I decided there had to be a better way, so took her to a medical herbalist, who treated her for a year for her glandular fever, with enormous success, as she has not had a relapse at all. About this time, bad press was coming out about Prozac and teenage suicide, and that, coupled with discussions with the medical herbalist who was very anti depression drugs and pro herb (obviously) really got me thinking. However I didn’t know where to look, and couldn’t afford the herbalist any more (I had spent about $100 per week for that year my daughter was very ill on vitamins etc).
I accidentally heard about Amoryn from an old acquaintance who was having amazing success with it, after having been on anti depressants since she was 14 years old.(I might add she is still having great success with it). So after researching the web site, and talking it over with the herbalist (I sent him the ingredients list) I decided to give it a go. Truly we have not looked back.
My daughter takes 3 a day. She recently tried 2 a day again, but within a week was weepy and not good, so for her, 3 works fine. She is 20 years old now ,working full time, doing a business diploma as well, , just bought a car and is going for her licence. We recently shifted countries, and she has coped perfectly with all the related stress....I guess the best music to my ears is that Amoryn has given her a future...with Prozac she never wanted to look beyond the day she was in,, there was not one thing to look foward to, but now, she is talking about the countries she wants to visit, what she wants to do when she finishes her course, she is learning to cook, so that when she goes flatting, she can eat well etc, etc. And since being on Amoryn there has not been one black hole or suicidal thought. I really don’t think that is just coincidence. The other day I came into the kitchen and she was humming as she cleaned up...I got such a surprise, as I had not heard her do that for years.
She has been on Amoryn for nearly a year now, and although I would like to think she could eventually do with out any medication, I am realistic enough to know that something in her brain is not working properly and she really need these ingredients to function properly. I am just grateful that Amoryn fills the need and is affordably priced.
